It's not easy being "the most hated man in America right now," and so The Bachelor Jason Mesnick has embarked on a national "I'm sorry for the last-minute Molly for Melissa switcheroo on national television" tour. First daytime TV stop: The Ellen DeGeneres Show , where he offers fans this reprieve:

"I think what I want to do is to apologize to everybody out there. All the fans of the show because thank you for watching, but this was my real life and it was the hardest thing I had to do. And I made some big mistakes and that's what I wanted to sit here and talk about today—the mistakes that I made. But in the end I found my true love."

He also expressed his regret over telling Melissa on camera about his feelings for Molly...

"I completely regret doing that," he says. "I regretted it every single day since that happened and I will regret probably every day for the rest of my life. The producers obviously really wanted me to do it on the show, but I take full responsibility for my actions. I could've not shown up and when I look back, I was just trying to do what I thought was right for me, and if I could go back and do it again I would not do that."

Despite Melissa's speculation that he had been talking to Molly again prior to humiliating her on TV, he swears he hadn't, saying asking for Molly back was "one of the scariest things that I've had to do."

And then there's Molly, who says she feels a little bit sorry for Melissa but then, hey, this is love, where it's cool to be selfish.

"You know, there were moments where I sympathized with Melissa for sure," she tells Ellen. "I was heartbroken by this guy, too. So I know what she was going through, but I do give him a lot of credit for doing what he did. Because he is standing up for what is best for him. I think if there is any time to be selfish, it's when love is involved."

For now the two say they're taking it one day at a time, trying to get America to stop hating them one talk show at time before they move to Seattle to fulfill their prophecy of marriage and the occasional tabloid cover.

So who's ready to pass a little forgiveness Jason's way?
